NIKKI Haley, the first American of Indian descent to hold a cabinet-level position in the US, resigned as Ambassador to the UN on Tuesday in a surprise move that has led to much speculation. President Donald Trump announced the resignation and said that she will leave her post by the end of the year.
President Donald Trump said that he thought that Haley helped make the position of UN ambassador “a much better position” and “a more glamorous position” and “more importantly, a more important position.”
Haley told the media: “I will say this. For all of you that are going to ask about 2020, no, I’m not running for 2020. I can promise you what I’ll be doing is campaigning for this one. So I look forward to supporting the president in the next election.”
Trump said: “We’re all happy for you in one way, but we hate to lose — hopefully you’ll be coming back at some point but in a different capacity. You can have your pick.”
