RICHMOND residents, Manmohan Vij and his wife Kusum, have donated $100,000 to Richmond Hospital, according to community activist Balwant Sanghera.
The couple are very well respected and active members of the Chai Chaupal Group run by Richmond Muticultural Community Services in cooperation with the India Cultural Centre of Canada Gurdwara Nanak Niwas in Richmond.
A Richmond Hospital spokesperson told The VOICE that he could not confirm or deny the news because only the donors themselves could ask the hospital to reveal their names and contribution.
“We thank each and every member of the India Culture Center of Canada Gurdwara Nanak Niwas who has chosen to give to make certain that their family has the best care possible here in Richmond.” said Natalie Meixner, President and CEO, Richmond Hospital Foundation.
“Since Richmond Hospital first opened 50 years ago in 1966, the size of our community has quadrupled. We have the fastest-growing seniors’ population in the entire province, which places extreme pressure on being able to provide acute care services to those in our families who need it,” said Meixner. “More than ever before, philanthropy is a vital lifeline for our hospital and we are grateful to the Gurdwara Nanak Niwas for giving back to make sure our loved ones have access to high quality care.”
The donation includes a $10,000 gift from well-known businessman and philanthropist Asa Singh Johal.
For nearly 30 years, Richmond Hospital Foundation has raised nearly $70 million to help purchase vital medical equipment, improve patient care services and upgrade facilities at Richmond Hospital.
