Looking fresh and dewy this winter

Winter is around the corner and with it the dry and cold wind. We all want to look fresh and dewy, but few of actually know how to do it, or what products to use. So how’s a gal supposed to achieve a soft and dewy look for the winter months? We went straight to the professionals to find out their secrets to a fresh and dewy winter look.

Choose the right foundation.

You’ll want to pick a foundation with a satin finish, unless you have dry skin – then choose a sheer formula. Some great products are Makeup Forever HD foundation ($42), NARS Sheer Glow ($42) or Neutrogena Health Skin ($10) – all these products give a dewy finish while providing great coverage.

Apply powder sparingly

If you have combination skin, use the least amount of powder you can.  If you have dry skin, skip the face powder all together.  The trick to using powder is use as little as possible and apply only to the oily parts of your skin- usually the t-zone.

Use a cream blush

Using powder blush can sometimes make your skin look dry and powdery.  To give a more dewy finish to the cheeks, use a cream blush. Some great ones are the Stila Convertible Cream Blushes ($25) or the Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks ($25) as they are highly pigmented and blend well into the skin. A great hydrating cheek tint is Korres’ Cheek Butter ($25). To apply any of the cream blushes, using clean fingers, pat the color over the apples of the cheeks.

Use a liquid or cream highlighter

Adding a cheek highlighter above the cream blush will add a soft glow to the cheeks and give your face a more radiant appearance. Some great products include benefit Girl Meets Pearl ($30), Makeup Forever Uplight Face Luminizer Gel ($29), Laura Mercier Secret Brightener ($30) or Burberry Fresh Glow ($48). To apply, use a small brush and dab the color directly on the top of the cheekbones and come along the temples slightly.
