Surrey RCMP investigate shots fired in Newton

SURREY RCMP are currently on scene in a residential area of Newton investigating reports of shots fired at a vehicle in the 7300-block of 125th Street at about 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday (December 14).

Police responded to a report of shots fired and located evidence that shots had been fired in the area. The initial investigation has revealed that the victim was in his vehicle in the driveway of a residence when the shots were fired. He took off in his vehicle and it is believed that he did not sustain any injuries.

The suspect vehicle was observed fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting and was last seen traveling south on 125th Street heading towards 72nd Avenue. The vehicle is described as an older model silver coloured SUV.

The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’ 7” tall, with short dark hair, and a slim face. He was wearing a black jacket and dark pants.

Officers are continuing to conduct neighbourhood canvassing and are speaking with witnesses to obtain further information. The investigation is still in its early stages, but initial indications are that this is a targeted incident.
